Clients received the following e-mail.

Dear Surmounted.NET Client,

Today we are pleased to announce the expansion of our company via our acquisition by GigaTux. Surmounted.NET was founded on the simple notion of putting the needs of our clients before our own personal interests. We grew our company by listening to our clients, working closely with them to form solutions to their unique needs, and ended up developing strong business relationships and friendships with many of you. Our service plans were molded around the suggestions submitted to us based upon the needs of our customers and in an effort to continually provide you the best service possible we have been acquired by GigaTux (http://gigatux.com/) who will allow your service and web presence to be taken to the next level.

What does this mean for you, the Surmounted.NET customer? Simply put, you’ll gain access to a better network and service being offered by a company that has an established presence in San Jose, California; London, UK; Frankfurt, DE; and Israel. With a larger support team and larger infrastructure/presence, it is our belief that GigaTux will provide you the excellent service you’ve come to expect from Surmounted.NET without increasing your cost or negatively impacting the performance of your current service.

What about your service plans, your current pricing, etc? No need to worry! There will be no changes in the specs or pricing of your current service plans. If you paid for a year of service three months ago, you still have 9 months left of service. All data will be transferred from Surmounted.NET’s Dallas, TX based servers to GigaTux’s San Jose, California servers with minimal or no interruption of your service at a time that will soon be announced. Our VPS clients will enjoy GigaTux’s powerful Xen based VPS nodes boasting Intel Xeon processors, fast RAID10 storage and offering familiar performance with an added bonus: IpV6 compatibility! In the event a plan is offered by GigaTux that is more favorable to you in terms of pricing or specs, please contact sales@gigatux.com to see what can be done.

The important thing to remember is that Surmounted.NET will remain Surmounted.NET, however the brand will now be owned and operated by GigaTux. You may see a few changes around the site that reflect the offerings of the GigaTux brand and you will interact with new support staff however we believe you will enjoy the changes and upgrades provided by them.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please submit a ticket to GigaTux directly by emailing support@gigatux.com and you’ll be taken care of promptly.

For the quickest notification of updates throughout this process please see our Twitter feed at http://www.twitter.com/SurmountedNET

I think I’ve reached the point where I’m no longer surprised by the new hosting company names I come across. Looking back over the years I’ve been in the industry, I must say the times have completely changed from the generic names to the most random. Here’s a quick list of random (my own opinion) company names I can think of.

BiteSplit – Company is no longer around, but they were a “No BS” host, as they called it.

VPSLatch – VPS latch, latch onto what? I don’t get it.

SpeedySparrow – I <3 this one

SemoWeb – South East Missouri State fan?

GG Web Hosting – GG? Go Gaga for Lady Gaga? Not sure on this one, though he could be Korean and is using it to recall his StarCraft days of owning people and saying GG for good game.

I was able to pull this list of companies off the top of my head because the first time I saw each of these company names, I tried to figure out what the owner was thinking when he/she started the company. Coming up with a catchy and easy to remember name is key, especially when a large majority of their advertising is done online and it’s very easy to misspell something.

Just remember, when coming up with a new company name, keep it simple, unique, and easy to remember!

More random thoughts to come.

(PRWeb) cPanel, a company that develops web hosting software and has a strong performance record in North America, will now expand its success and brand name to the South-American region via its Fast Update service with HostDime’s data center in Brazil. The recent growth in this area, backed by support from HostDime, represents one of the business decisions that will allow cPanel to support new and emerging markets.

HostDime’s director of business development, Usman Arshad, expressed his excitement about working with cPanel in South America.

“HostDime has had major growth in South America over the last four years, and we look forward to continuing the strong, unbreakable bond that we have with cPanel,” Arshad said.

cPanel’s Fast Update service is a feature offered by many of the company’s top partners. It is also one of the core building blocks to assist data centers in the South-American region with faster installations and updates.

Rather than having to find connections to mirror servers, cPanel Partner NOC’s are provided with a locally-housed server that can be used to provide updates to their cPanel/WHM and Enkompass servers. Not only does the Fast Update services use cPanel proprietary technology to find the closest mirror–but it also uses an internal algorithm to select the most suitable mirror for the fastest data transmission.

cPanel system administrator Adam Wien said he was pleased with the expansion because it would increase the speed of installs and updates by 400-percent.

“The Fast Update network of servers is also critical because it lowers transit costs for both, cPanel and its customers,” Wien added.

The faster installations and upgrades translate to fewer service interruptions for the partners’ clients. The faster install and upgrade times ultimately reduce bandwidth costs for data centers and allow providers and customers to reallocate their resources to other web hosting areas.

cPanel vice president of operations Aaron Phillips discussed cPanel’s commitment to providing world-wide services to Partner NOC’s.

“In addition to our expansions into South America, our ongoing efforts also include plans for Spanish-speaking technical support, product translations, and website efforts,” Phillips added.

Data center consolidation is a great opportunity for companies that need to lower costs, reduce administration and improve their technology by reducing their complex infrastructure into a more manageable and larger server or database than they might be able to house on-site.

Some companies prefer these solutions because it allows them to cut costs and keep things safe, while others might appreciate the ability to get better technology for the same amount of money that they would spend on in-house technology that is only half as effective.

Regardless of the reasons for choosing data consolidation, businesses can find many advantages to eliminating their many servers and databases in-house and transferring them to an off-site facility. Included in these benefits is the ability to get better power, larger bandwidths, higher levels of security, and more extra features and capacity offerings than any company might be able to afford to keep on-site. The data center is critical to the success of a company because its information is stored there and accessed as needed. If files are lost or take a long time to transmit due to various issues, business can suffer.

Keeping a business running efficiently in today’s computer-centric world requires data consolidation in most cases. This type of operation allows businesses to get the documentation and storage that they need while paying less for more power, more storage space, faster access, and the advantage of having offsite storage in the event of a catastrophe of any kind. There are many different ways that offsite data center services can be utilized, but these specific offerings are what most commonly attract businesses to the idea of data center storage for their database and server needs.

Data center consolidation is not for everyone. For example, large firms and companies who have the means and ability to create their own data center onsite will have much better results doing so. However, the majority of businesses are not large enough to warrant this kind of space or expense, which makes them an ideal candidate. All types of businesses can utilize these services, as long as they are able to take the time to check out their options and find the best solution for their specific needs. Keep these things in mind when you are checking out your own options.

(The Hosting News) – Cloud Linux Inc., an innovative software company dedicated to serving the needs of hosting service providers, announces today that HostDime, a leading global Web Hosting organization, will begin to offer CloudLinux on all of its VPS and dedicated servers. HostDime is one of the largest providers of managed hosting services and has a global presence with six international offices and data centers in USA, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, UK, India, and Israel. With a reputation for expert customer service and quality products, HostDime selected CloudLinux to deliver improved performance, security and reliability to its customers.

“HostDime is very pleased to offer CloudLinux,” states Emmanuel Vivar, CEO of HostDime. “As a managed hosting provider we are always looking for quality products that will help us increase efficiency and stability as well as improve the overall performance from our servers. We deployed CloudLinux on our shared hosting servers, and we have seen immediate improvement in reliability. Now we want to offer the same solution to our dedicated server customers.”

CloudLinux’s core technology is Lightweight Virtual Environment™, a kernel-level technology that limits the amount of resources (CPU, concurrent processes) available to a group of processes. While similar to container type virtualization technology, LVE is completely transparent and lightweight. Once installed, the LVE works transparently to manage resources that the hosting provider sets for the accounts on a server. It controls the CPU resources to ensure that each account on a shared server is allocated enough resources to run efficiently without jeopardizing the other tenants on that server, making the server more stable and delivering better performance.

With LVE technology, CloudLinux can deliver performance, reliability and operational benefits for hosting providers including:

Increased uptime since no one account can slow down or take down an entire shared server
Better reliability and performance with a server that is running at peak operating capacity
Better control over CPU resources
Increased density so you can host more tenants on one server
Compatibility with all major control panels for easy management

“Cloud Linux understands the needs of hosting providers in delivering secure, reliable, high performance services to their clients,” states Igor Seletskiy, Cloud Linux Founder and CEO. “Our proven technology can help global providers like HostDime differentiate their services from their competition and deliver quality products to their customers.”

CloudLinux is priced to support all types of hosting providers and is available at a tiered retail monthly price based on the number of servers under management. The CloudLinux Partner Program offers discounts and more competitive pricing and a support model designed to meet the specific requirements of hosting companies as well as an opportunity to leverage the CloudLinux brand.

London, 22nd September 2010:
OnApp has deployed its unique cloud management platform at 30 hosting providers in the first eight weeks since its launch – confirming the importance of cloud hosting as the future of the hosting industry. OnApp clients have now deployed more than 50 clouds and 35,000 virtual servers on the platform.

The OnApp cloud platform provides an easy way for a web host to set up, configure and manage a cloud hosting operation using off-the-shelf server and storage hardware. Once the cloud is deployed, OnApp provides simple web-based control of clouds, virtual machines, storage and compute resources, users, billing and more.

“There’s a lot of fluff talked about clouds, but for web hosts it’s a very tangible business issue,” said Carlos Rego, MD of OnApp. “Hosting customers want more control over the services they buy. They want to be able to self-provision and scale those services, quickly and easily. They also need more flexibility in the way they pay for services. Cloud hosting meets this market need, but it presents a technical and a business challenge for the host.”

“That’s where OnApp has a unique proposition. We advise on cloud hosting business models, and provide a turnkey cloud platform designed specifically for hosts: affordable, easy to use, easy to manage and quick to deploy,” he said.

Dediserve is one of the recent converts to OnApp. Dediserve offers a wide range of virtual and dedicated hosting services from its HQ in Dublin’s Digital Hub. Aidan Mc Carron, Dediserve’s Managing Director, said:

“Having reviewed a wide range of cloud management solutions, including investing 6 months in our own solution, we were delighted to deploy OnApp. It answered every requirement we identified, and the credentials of the team involved are second to none, globally.”

In a typical host’s hardware environment, OnApp can set up a cloud in about one day. Once a cloud is deployed, it can take as little as 60 seconds for the host to set up a virtual machine and provision a cloud-based service to a customer. OnApp gives hosts a free license for 100 CPU cores for one year, after which licensing takes the form of a simple monthly fee per core and per cloud. As a result, OnApp makes it easy and affordable for a provider to start offering cloud hosting services to its customers, without massive up-front licensing costs.

About OnApp
OnApp is one of the fastest growing cloud platforms in the market, with over 35,000 virtual servers deployed on the platform. Designed for the needs of the hosting market, OnApp enables hosting providers to set up public or private clouds based on commodity hardware, and deploy customizable virtual machines in just a few clicks. OnApp uses multi-hypervisor technology (such as Xen and KVM) to ensure complete security and isolation for virtual machines. It also offers unrivalled scalability, with virtualization management that enables service providers to optimize their use of server resources, creating the potential for significant hardware and energy cost savings.

OnApp has offices in the US and Europe, employs more than 40 staff and can be found at www.onapp.com.

You usually associate web hosting with a means to an end. It is where designers come and upload their beautiful designs after the design process has ended. Actual web hosts are rarely arbiters of good design. To micfo, however, an international and Better Business Bureau accredited web hosting company, this did not make sense. After eight years of hosting, micfo decided to change its image to reflect its consumer first ethos.

“You wouldn’t sell beautiful and expensive clothes in a dusty hard to navigate backwoods shop would you?” says executive director Amir Golestan. “Why would you host your business on a site that was less than inspiring and hard to use?”

This thought process inspired micfo’s rebranding. Established in 2002 and growing to include offices across the United States and the UK, the new micfo site combines cutting edge technology with unparalleled support all while engaging the end user to create a unique web hosting experience. The design, which was the largest focus of the rebranding, has garnered interest from top design sites because of its form and function.

micfo also created a blog which is an integral part of the experience and educates consumers on a wide range of web related topics as well as entertains. It is an online portal for those seeking information about reliable web hosting as well as relevant news about what is going on in the world. The blog positions micfo to become not only a leading web hosting company, but to quickly become a leader in the web information sector.
